Discovering the screw extrusion technique

For lack of available information, main contractors, project managers and purchasing advisors don't sometimes have enough information about concrete pouring techniques and joined possible uses.

We now distinguish 2 main techniques for concrete extrusion : Pouring by vibration or by screw.

Completing each other, these 2 techniques allows to pour road and highway works as well as industrial areas and some other works.

These techniques answer to different features and get their own benefit.


To curb by vibration

This technique need slipform machines guided for high and direction by string and sensors. This kind of guidance allows to work on a lot of base if it can be drive on, without caring of road irregularityuntill almost 2 centimeter..

These machines, most bigger than the Curbilder (c) using screw, don't allow you to pour on all kind of works, specially in circulation. Radius should be not less than 5 meters to provide good works.

It could be productive for high curbs. This productivity can only be aim if you solve guide position problems, separated pieces works and concrette supply.


To curb concrete and asphalt with screw curb extruder

This technique needs smaller machines and take less working place on the road, so it is able to curb minimum 60 cm curves.

These machines follow the base which is most of the time made of asphalt, so it as to be well done to ensure the best quality of work event if it is possible to plan it before working, if necessary.

These machines allows to pour a lot of different curbs as : I, T, A, GSS2, mini GBA, ..., normalized or not, to build very different kind of works : in town, or in the country, on road or highway, on circle in circulation or not, on industrial areas or other parking places.


Concrete

Concrete these machines are using is supplying by concrete plants providing national or international standard and normalize ready to use concrete.

The concrete plant, which is normalize, guarantee the concrete features regarding the strength. If country is concerned, concrete provided by the concrete plant will fit to European EN 206-1 standard or it national equivalent.


Joints

Concrete unnaturally cracks when water disappear. This unpredictable crack can get accept for some works. For some others, due to aesthetically pleasing reasons it as to be canalize. It is why joints are made.

It joints can be done either on fresh concrete during pouring, or on "young" concrete by sawing at a special time during it solidification. It has to be done through special process in both cases.


Physical and mechanical characteristics of works curb by concrete extrusion

From experience, you can expect concrete will provide, after curbing, equal ou stronger resistance than prefabricated or form curbs, thanks to is excellent tightening during curbing.

Also, kind of base is important. In fact, concrete unnaturally grips to asphalt.

So, from our experience, a curb pour on asphalt will benefit of longer lifespan, because it grip technique included base to total resistance.




Characteristics of looking

It is possible to get different colours of concrete by choosing stone, sand and cement you put in.

It is possible to provide coloured concrete or to paint it, but this product has to stay mineral, so stone colours will have to be kept, from white to grey or intermediate ochre colours.

Some treatments of surface can be apply, ether on "young" concrete : chemical actions, scratch looking, gritting ; nor on "old" concrete most of the time to maintain : shot-blasting, high pressure washing.

Lately, curbs have been build of "clean up" concrete based on titanium oxide.


 

Maintenance

Monolithism of works due to concrete griping to asphalt, allows to increase lifespan regarding to traditional prefabricated or form method.

Concrete don't need a lot of work to maintain and repairs are usally simple. If works is enough long (more than 10 meters long ) a working team is able to come back to re-curb this part of the works. If it is shorter, curb is pouring out of the works and later place on the works, after taking out the damaged one.


 

This technique main assets

This concrete extruding technique brings a lot of assets to curb road or rainwater sewer system, regarding to traditional method (prefabricated or form curbs).
